Dentistry is ever changing and when it comes to what patients refer to as ‘cleaning’, the science is geared towards a major question: How can the dentist provide an efficient yet minimally invasive technique to clean the teeth better and make the experience comfortable for the patient?

An inovative teeth cleaning technique - Guided Biofilm Therapy - might be the answer.

Guided Biofilm Therapy is a hygiene technique which involves the use of the most up to date and scientifically proven techniques to ensure the best in dental cleaning. Through a controlled stream of air, water and very fine Erythitol powder, our dentists or dental hygienists are able to remove biofilm, stain and young calculus from the enamel, dentin, soft tissues, orthodontic appliances and implants.

Why is Guided Biofilm therapy is a "game changer"'?

Guided biofilm therapy disrupts dental biofilm (sticky and colourless film made up of bacteria on the surface of the teeth) in the most gentle yet effective way.

It involves an initial assessment to determine dental disease risk and therefore treatment protocol. Teeth are then disclosed with a purple dye that makes biofilm visible. The patient is then shown any problem areas which helps them to perfect their oral hygiene regime. The colour also guides the dentist or hygienist in the removal of biofilm.

Depending on the level of treatment need determined in the assessment, a combination of cleaning systems are used to gently remove biofilm, staining and deposits. The technique is so gentle that it can be used on natural teeth, restorations, orthodontic braces and dental implants.

A final check ensures all biofilm deposits have been removed. The teeth are then protected with a fluoride coating.
