Tooth Extractions

Whether it’s a wisdom tooth or a tooth that had trauma, we will do everything we can to make this treatment as comfortable as possible.

Our dentists may determine that you need a tooth extraction for various reasons. Some teeth are extracted because they are severely decayed; others may have advanced periodontal disease or have broken in a way that cannot be repaired. Other teeth may need removal because they are poorly positioned in the mouth (such as impacted teeth), or in preparation for orthodontic treatment.

The removal of a single tooth can lead to issues relating to your chewing ability, your jaw joint and shifting teeth, which may have a major impact on your dental health. To avoid these complications, our dentists will discuss alternatives to extractions as well as replacement options for the missing tooth.

An appointment with one of our hygienists could also help improve your teeth and avoid extractions in future.

Fillings & Crowns

Fillings

Fillings are made to restore the function and aesthetic of the damaged tooth structure. This kind of structural loss typically results from tooth decay or external trauma. We use composite resin materials, which are “tooth-coloured” and are artistically built to match the exact shade and form of natural teeth.

Crowns

A crown is required to restore lost or weakened tooth structure and reproduce its natural form, shade and function. Several types of materials are used to produce crowns, such as porcelain, eMax, resin and metals. In general, crowns reinforced by certain substructures like zirconia tend to have a long life expectancy, especially if correctly indicated and produced.

Inlays & Onlays

As well as conventional fillings, we can also provide you with an inlay or onlay. Inlays and onlays are a form of indirect restoration made by a dental technician in a dental laboratory.

If you have a larger filling, or perhaps a broken cusp on a tooth, we may want to consider a porcelain inlay or onlay. These restorations are a simple and effective treatment and, in some cases, are an excellent alternative to a complete porcelain crown.

  • An inlay is used in a similar way to a traditional filling but looks much more genuine. Inlays are used to repair the large chewing surface of a back tooth and to mend larger cavities where a conventional filling wouldn’t be strong enough. Often, inlays may replace traditional fillings that failed or fell out, since they are more durable.
  • An onlay is similar to an inlay, just a little larger. An onlay is necessary for a significant reconstruction, where it extends out over one or more cusps of the tooth. Onlays can repair a cavity right in the central part of the chewing surface, as well as one or more of the tooth cusps.

Emergency Dentistry

If you require an emergency dentist in Chelsea, near Sloane Square, South West London, you can contact us and we will ensure that you are treated at the earliest possible opportunity. We anticipate that, for the majority of dental emergencies, this will mean on the same day.

Outlined below are a few helpful guides to assist you when dealing with dental emergencies:

Same-day tooth pain relief

Toothache can occur in the teeth and around the jaws and is caused by a number of different dental issues.

Usually, the pain begins suddenly and can range from mild discomfort to severe pain. It can come and go, but it can also be constant and made worse by eating or drinking.

What can cause toothache?

How toothache is treated depends on the cause of the pain.

The dental pulp is most likely the cause of pain as it is made of delicate tissue containing blood vessels and sensitive nerves.

Some of the most common reasons for pains are infection, tooth decay, receding gums and cracked teeth.

Other reasons for toothache that don’t involve the dental pulp include:

  • Ulcers on the gums
  • Sinus inflammation
  • The eruption of wisdom teeth

At American Smile your mouth is examined, and an x-ray of your teeth may be taken to help identify the issue.

Small X-rays are included in the cost of your appointment.

What is the cost of the Emergency Appointment at American Smile?

Total cost of this appointment is £150 to £300, depending on cause of pain.

Please see the full breakdown of charges below.

If the toothache is a result of tooth decay, the decay will be removed and replaced with a white filling.

Depending on location of the filling there will be a charge of £100 to £150.

If the dental pulp is infected, a course of antibiotics or a root canal treatment may be necessary.

Prescription writing is included in the cost of your Emergency appointment at American Smile, however if we need to open and dress the root canal - there will be a charge of £150 added.

Wisdom Teeth

We often see patients with pain caused by wisdom teeth.

In this case we will relieve your pain on the day by flushing and cleaning around the area with ultrasonic instruments.

A charge of £50 to £75 is added to the Emergency appointment cost in this case.
