All-on-4 dental implants offer many benefits over conventional implants and removable dentures. These include:
If you are currently struggling with your dentures, or are missing teeth, All-on-4 might be the best solution for you. It is an excellent procedure for patients who have a complete denture, are missing most or all of their teeth, or those who are losing their teeth due to gum disease.
It is unfortunate, but losing teeth is very common for adults. However, with dental implant technology, there is no need for the discomfort and hassle that comes with dentures. Instead, you can opt for All-on-4 dental implant restoration.
With the use of just four implants, all of your teeth on either the top or bottom of your mouth can be replaced. It will be fixed into place, so it feels and functions like your natural teeth.
After you choose this procedure you will be able to eat and enjoy all of the foods that you love. You can bite into an apple, eat raw vegetables like salads easily, and you can also enjoy meat. They look beautiful and natural, and our patients absolutely love them.
All-on-4 implants are sometimes mistakenly referred to as ‘All-on-4 dentures’. That's probably because the traditional way to replace a full jaw of teeth is with removable dentures, which consist of a gum-coloured acrylic base and teeth made from resin or porcelain.
Dentures fit over the gums and stay in place either with suction alone or with a dental adhesive. Properly fitting dentures shouldn't require any adhesive.
However, with dentures the supporting bone shrinks over time as there are no teeth for it to hold in place, and this change of shape will cause dentures to become loose. This means they need to be replaced regularly to avoid discomfort and problems when eating. Dentures also increase the rate of bone loss.
Removable dentures are custom-made to precisely fit the patient's mouth. The upper denture covers the roof of the mouth and the lower one is a horseshoe shape to allow room for the tongue. They must be removed for cleaning, usually overnight (hence the cliché of false teeth in a glass on the bedside table).
In contrast, All-on-4 implants are fixed in place and should act just like natural teeth in terms of their appearance, chewing and comfort. There is no risk of them slipping out of place while the wearer is talking or eating.
Dentures offer a clear cost advantage over any kind of implants - but they do need to be replaced, on average once every five years.

Your first step in the procedure will be a consultation with our implant surgeon - Dr Suraj (LINK). During this consultation, Dr Suraj will assess your suitability for implants. He will examine your mouth, perform a CT scan, X-ray, 3D intraoral scan and check your existing jaw-bone density.
If you are a suitable candidate for implants, and you make a decision to go ahead, the next step will be where your digital scans are sent to the lab. Here, your new dental bridge will be designed to fit and look just like your natural teeth.
We can also prepare a digital image using smilecloud technology, so you can see the design of your new teeth.
If you need to have teeth extracted before your implants are inserted, this can usually be done on the same day. During the All-on-4 implant placement procedure, Dr Suraj will drill two or more holes at the front of your jaw to hold the front implants. Two holes at the rear, one on each side, are angled to offer greater support to the rear of the bridge. Once the implants are placed your mouth will be cleaned and any incisions stitched up. On the same day, you'll be fitted with your new teeth.
Some patients may experience some bruising, swelling and general discomfort in the days after their surgery. You'll probably want to take a couple of days off work to recover fully and get used to your new teeth.

All-on-4 is a relatively new technology, so existing studies have only looked as far as 10 years after placement.
However, results are promising as 99.2% of prostheses are shown to last longer than this and there is every reason to believe they will last for 15-20 years or longer, provided you follow your dentist's instructions for taking care of them.
Dr Suraj will advise you on the type of foods you can and cannot eat in the months after your treatment.
For the first few months, you might need to stick to very soft foods so you don't disturb the process of the implants fusing with your bone.
You might also be advised to avoid things like smoking and strenuous exercise for a while.
All-on-4 implants are cleaned just like your normal teeth - by brushing twice a day. Dr Suraj will show you how to floss with special tools.
You might want to invest in a water flosser with special attachments designed to clean around implants.
If you look after your All-on-4 implants carefully, they should last for 20 years or longer.
You'll need to return to American Smile for regular checkups and dental hygiene sessions (twice a year).
The temporary All-on-4 bridge is made of a strong acrylic. The final bridge is generally made with a high-quality titanium bar supporting a resin bridge.
In some cases this can be upgraded to zirconia, which is a strong yet durable material that can be layered to closely mimic natural teeth.
We have combined the inside knowledge and experience of American, Brazilian, European and British dentistry to bring you the most advanced, evidence-based techniques to design a smile you will love and be empowered to maintain.
